Protecting your identity
- Keep your phone number, address and workplace private early on.
- Stay in the platform's messaging until you're genuinely comfortable.
- Be mindful of photos that reveal identifying details.
Meeting in public
- Choose a public, well-lit spot you already know.
- Tell a trusted friend where you're going and who you're meeting.
- Arrange your own transport there and back.
Financial safety
- Never send money or buy gift cards for someone you haven't met.
- Be wary of anyone asking for financial help or "proof" early on.
- Real connections never start with a request for payment.
Recognizing red flags
- Pressure to move fast or share contact info immediately.
